This page is for workers' comp firms licensed in New Jersey. It covers how the New Jersey system is set up, what your intake team should screen for, and how our leads work. For what changes from state to state, see the workers' comp leads by state hub.

How workers' comp is run in New Jersey

New Jersey's system is run by the Division of Workers' Compensation in the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The Division's worker FAQs cover notice, medical care and filing.

When there's a dispute, the worker can file either a formal Claim Petition or an Application for an Informal Hearing with the Division. According to the Division's page on navigating disputes, the case is assigned to a judge and a district office based on the worker's county of residence, or the employer's county if the worker lives out of state.

What to screen for in New Jersey

Notice to the employer

The Division's worker FAQs say the worker should notify the employer as soon as possible, and that notice doesn't have to be in writing. Intake should record the exact date and how notice was given.

Filing with the Division

The FAQs say a formal Claim Petition must be filed within two years of the date of injury or the last payment of compensation, whichever is later, and that medical treatment authorized by the employer counts as a payment of compensation. For occupational illness, the two years run from when the worker became aware of the condition and its link to work. Filing an Application for an Informal Hearing doesn't stop the two-year clock.

Doctor rules

The FAQs say the employer and/or its insurance carrier can select the health care providers who treat the work injury.

Screening questions for New Jersey intake

  • When did the injury happen, and when and how did you tell your employer?
  • Has the employer or insurer authorized treatment or paid benefits? When was the most recent?
  • Which doctor is treating you, and who chose that doctor?
  • Have you filed a Claim Petition or an Application for an Informal Hearing?
  • Which county do you live in?
  • Have you talked to another lawyer about this injury?

What every New Jersey workers' comp lead includes

The injured worker fills in our form themselves. Each lead includes:

  • Whether they were injured while working
  • Employment status
  • Injury date
  • State and ZIP code
  • Whether the injury was reported to the employer
  • Medical treatment so far
  • Injury details, in their own words
  • Whether they already have an attorney
  • An SMS-verified phone number
  • A TrustedForm certificate

Leads that don't match your filters aren't sent. The TrustedForm certificate records the form session and the consent to be contacted, and the SMS check confirms the phone number. Our TrustedForm and lead verification guide explains how to read both.

How it works for New Jersey firms

  1. Book a strategy call. Tell us you're licensed in New Jersey, plus any other states, your intake hours and where leads should go.
  2. Set your New Jersey screening and place a first paid order. We agree your filters with you, using questions like the ones above.
  3. We run workers' comp campaigns nationwide. A lead reaches you only when the worker was hurt in a state you've chosen and the lead passes your filters.
  4. Leads go to your CRM by webhook, LeadDocket, Litify or GoHighLevel, or by email or SMS alert. We can route leads by office or case type.

We don't publish lead volume or ad figures for any single state. On the call, we'll be straight with you about what your filters can support before your first paid order. The full service is on our workers' comp leads page.
